Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is becoming an increasingly popular treatment in the UK and is one of the least demanding dental services you can request. It’s never been easier to get that gleaming smile you’ve always wanted.

Professional teeth whitening is an effective and safe method of whitening your teeth and can be the perfect way to look your best on that special occasion. At Croydon Orthodontic Practice, we use whitening trays that are custom-made for each client by our 3D scanner - this ensures that you get the best smile possible! Our teeth whitening service requires just one visit and can help your teeth become up to 8 shades whiter.

How Does The Teeth Whitening Treatment Work?

At Croydon Orthodontic Practice and Bracelands, we use professional standard at-home whitening kits. They’re safe, gradual, time-efficient and you’ll have continual guidance from your specialist orthodontist - best of all, you could start to see results in just three days!

Step 1 - Book a consultation!

First things first, you’ll need a consultation - we will make sure your gums and teeth are healthy enough for the treatment. If everything looks good, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to create a bespoke whitening tray which you will be able to use at home. During this time, we can also discuss your treatment goals and the shade of white you are looking to achieve.

Step 2 - Collect your trays!

Once your trays are ready, simply come back to collect them along with the bleaching gel which you will use at home. During this consultation, your orthodontist will make sure that your whitening trays fit correctly and comfortably, as well as talk you through the proper way to use them.

Step 3 - It’s over to you!

Your specialist orthodontist will talk you through the best way to use your whitening trays and how long you should be wearing them. This all depends on your desired results. Most people opt to wear their trays overnight!

What about ‘shop-bought’ whitening kits?

Many shops, websites and pharmacies across the UK sell teeth whitening kits that you can use at home. Be aware that these products can be ineffective and damage your teeth and gums, with some reportedly leaking bleach into your gums if the mouthguard does not fit properly. We would always advise that you seek consultation with a trained dentist or orthodontist before undertaking teeth whitening treatment, even if it’s not with a Croydon Orthodontic Practice specialist.

Is teeth whitening treatment safe?

Teeth whitening is a safe and risk-free procedure if done correctly. It is illegal for someone to carry out whitening procedures if they are not a registered dental professional.

How effective is teeth whitening?

The results of your procedure will depend on your individual teeth and circumstances. During your initial consultation, one of our dental experts will be able to advise you on the expected results.

In-practice vs at-home teeth whitening

This teeth whitening procedure can be carried out at-home or in-practice.

At-home treatment requires an initial consultation and session in which an orthodontist will give you a teeth whitening kit for you to apply yourself. This includes a bespoke whitening tray made from an impression of your teeth. This method can take 2-4 weeks to take effect.

In-practice teeth whitening is performed by a specialist orthodontist and you can expect to see results much quicker. Your teeth may temporarily feel sensitive but this usually wears off after 24 hours!
